National Valley of Flowers Trek- Uttarakhand, 2017

World Famous Valley of Flowers National Park is located in Chamoli Garhwal, in state of Uttarakhand. This nature’s beautiful treasure was first discovered by British mountaineers Frank S. Smythe and R. L. Holdsworth when they coming down from Mt. Kamet Expedition. Valley of Flowers was declared a National Park in 1982 and now it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This Valley is botanists, nature lovers, trekkers and photographers’ paradise. It’s famous for its excellent trekking trail, it is the home for many beautiful flowers like Brahma Kamal, Blue Poppy and Cobra Lily.

Trekking expedition includes trek to Valley of Flowers, Shri Hemkunt Shahib, Badrinath and Mana. It is also an important pilgrimage for Hindu and Sikhs.

By Bus: Rishikesh is about 240 kms from Delhi. Regular bus services are available from Kashmiri Gate ISBT, New Delhi. It takes around six – seven hours, depending on traffic.
By Air: Nearest Airport is Dehradun Jolly Grant Airport (Approx. 20 Kms)
By Train: The nearest railhead to Rishikesh is Haridwar which is approximately 25 kilometers away. Haridwar is linked to major Indian cities such as Delhi, Dehradun, Mumbai, Kolkata, Lucknow and Varanasi etc.

Day Wise schedule:

Day 1: Report at Base Camp, Rishikesh (before 4 PM)– Reporting, orientation and briefing

Day 2: Drive from Rishikesh Reporting Camp to Joshimath by hired Bus – (Approx. 254 Km) -Early morning (after Bed Tea/Biscuits) drive to reach Joshimath. Packed Breakfast and lunch en-route and generally it takes 10-12 hours depending upon the road conditions. Arrival at Joshimath by evening and check-in the hotel for overnight stay.

Day 3: Drives from Joshimath to Govindghat and start to Ghangaria (Approx.-13 KM Trek)– After Breakfast, drive to reach Govindghat (Approx-). Govindghat is the actual starting point of treks for Hemkunt Shahib and Valley of Flowers. The trek begins after crossing Alaknanda River by a bridge. The trail is well defined and goes all the way along with the river. The trek passes through dense vegetation and whispering forests and generally it takes 6-7 Hrs to reach Ghangaria. Stay overnight in Hotel, Ghangaria.

Day 4: Ghangaria to Valley of Flowers by trek (Approx.-5 Km One way)– After Breakfast trek to Valley of Flowers from Ghangaria. As the path from Ghangaria gradually ascends to the Valley of Flowers, glaciers, meadows, beautiful flowers and wild life begin to appear along the trek. The Valley is surrounded by many peaks like Gauri Parvat, Ratavan, Khunt khal, Saptasring and Nilgiri Parvat. After exploring the beautiful Valley, late afternoon head back to Ghangaria Camp.

Day 5: Ghangaria to Hemkunt Shahib by Trek (6 Km One Way)– After breakfast trek to Hemkunt Shahib. The trek is beautiful but the steep climb. Hemkunt Shahib is a popular Sikh pilgrimage shrine nestled by seven peaks and a lake right in front. The surrounding green lush meadow decorates this sanctum with many species of high altitude flowers and aromatic plants. The route is enchanting and waters of Laxman Ganga in its many moods are a constant delight to the trekkers. Back to Ghangaria Camp by the evening.

Day 6: Ghangaria to Govindghat by Trek and Govindghat to Badrinath by Bus– Trek to Govindghat and drive to reach Badrinath. In evening you will visit Shri Badrinath temple. Badrinath is the holiest shrine, situated on the right bank of Alaknanda with Nilkanth in the background. There are various other places of interest around the temple. Tapt kund, (a hot sulphur water pool), Neelkanth peak, Narad Kund and Brahmakapal. Stay overnight in YHAI Hostel, Badrinath.

Day 7: Badrinath, Mana, Vasudhara and back – After breakfast, you will visit Mana, 3 km distance from Badrinath. Mana is the last Indian Village on the mainland side of the border with Tibet. It is a picture square and historical village. From Mana you will trek to Vasudhara Falls which is 5 km trek that takes 2 hrs. Back to Badrinath before sunset and stay overnight in YHAI Hostel, Badrinath.

Day 8: Badrinath to Rishikesh – Start early to drive from Badrinath to Rishikesh. Full day bus journey will takes 12 Hrs, depending on road condition.
Day 9: Valediction and check out after breakfast– Certificates will be distributed to participants who have successfully completed the trek. Check out after breakfast.
