Breif Description Of The Program : Youth Hostels Association of India is happy to announce a most demanding program in the north east region named The Beauty of Eastern India: Darjeeling & Sikkim Individual Tour: 2023.

Darjeeling is a hill station in the northern region of West Bengal. It used to be a lovely Victorian town built among the Himalayan foothills, the remnants of which are still visible around the Chowrasta. Darjeeling remains a popular summer and fall resort for the natives of Kolkata today. The main attractions are the cultural diversity of the Tibetan and Nepali populations. The town is also a jumping off point for travelers heading to Sikkim.

Sikkim is a state in northeast India, bordered by Bhutan, Tibet and Nepal. Part of the Himalayas, the area has a dramatic landscape that includes India’s highest mountain, 8,586m Kangchenjunga. Sikkim is also home to glaciers, alpine meadows and thousands of varieties of wildflowers.
 
Day wise Schedule:
Day 1 : Report at IYH Darjeeling at 11 am. After having hot lunch one can visit The Mall, Mahakal temple, and Nightingale Park on a walk. Night stay at IYH Darjeeling.
Day 2 : Wake up early at 3 am. Take morning tea, and drive towards Tiger Hill for mesmerizing Sunrise. After enjoying Sunrise come back to the hostel, take your breakfast and then drive to enjoy the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and Museum, Himalayan Zoological Park, Batasia Loop, Japanese temple, and Tea Garden. Night stay at IYH Darjeeling.
Day 3 : After having breakfast at IYH Darjeeling, drive towards Rumtek Camp, near Gangtok, Sikkim. Take hot lunch at Sikkim camp, and then visit Mahatma Gandhi road (The Mall), Tashi viewpoint, and the Flower Show on a walk. Night stay at Sikkim camp.
Day 4 : After having breakfast drive to enjoy the Historically Significant Nathu La (pass), (Tibet Border), Baba Harbhajan Singh Ji Mandir, Tsomgo Lake (Chhangu), and Hanuman Ji Mandir. Night stay at Sikkim camp.
Day 5 : After having breakfast drive to visit South Sikkim. Today you will visit Chardham temple, the Padmasambhava statue at Namchi, and Buddha Park at Ravangla. Night stay at Sikkim camp.
Day 6 : Group breaks after breakfast.

Online Booking : Participants can book the programme through our website :www.yhaindia.org.
Offline Booking : Participants may book the programme through State Branch/Unit or directly send the registration form to the National Office at Youth Hostels Association of India, 5, Nyaya Marg, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi – 110 021 by remitting the fee by RTGS or NEFT in the following account and attach the challan with the Registration Form :

Who Can Participate : Any YHAI member between the age of 18 years and 60 Years can participate in the programme. YHAI membership is mandatory to participate. Under age and above age may contact the National Office for consideration of their special request. Admission will be at the discretion of the management.
Special Permission For Age Relaxation : As a special case if a person less than 18 years or above 60 years, is medically fit and a regular Traveller and Trekker then he can be allowed in offline mode (decision will be only at management discretion and seat availability). In this case, he/she has to produce Indemnity bond on plain paper and has to submit the same along with Registration form and medical certificate of fitness to National Office and also at the time of reporting at the Base Camp.
 
How To Reach The Base Camp :
The Base Camp is at International Youth Hostels Darjeeling, Chota Kakjhora, Near New Taxi Stand, 200mtr away before Darjeeling Railway Station, Darjeeling is easily accessible from any part of India by Air, Rail or Road,

Nearest Airport at Bagdogra (70 km / 3 hours)
From Siliguri Junction available Bus/Jeep/Taxi services to reach International Youth Hostel, Darjeeling.
 
Accommodation Facilities : Pucca accommodation (ON SHARING BASIS).
Food & Water Supplies : Vegetarian, Healthy & Nutritious food will be served during the program
 
What participants should bring along :
Normal WATERPROFF Shoes
FLIP FLOP / FLOTTERS
Socks 4 (2 Woolen· & 2 Cotton) Pair and Gloves 2 pair
Trousers (Light weight, jeans, cargo preferably quick dry).
Inner Garments (as per requirement).
Cotton T-shirts (Full and Heavy woolens and Jacket.
Wind Cheater (Upper· & Lower with hoods, preferable water repelled)
Rain Coat/ Set/poncho, Sweater and Woolen Cap.
Sun Glass (any colour other than blue).
Daysack/knapsack
Power bank(as per your requirement)
Torch (With spare cells)
Water Bottle
Medicine (As per your personal requirement, which you regularly use at home and Crepe Bandage 4in*1, Micropore tape 1/2inch*1, Band-Aids, Cough lozenges/ Kanthil or other, Vicks Vaporub, Cold cream, Clotrimazole cream and powder, Paracetamol*10 Mupirocin cream, Diclofenac gel, Lopamide*10, Azithromycin and Electoral).
 
Safety & Security : Extensive and painstaking preparations have gone into the Planning of your safety. Our field staff and experienced camp volunteers have been visiting the area to check all details. While every care has been taken to ensure safety,the Youth Hostels Association of India cannot be held responsible for any accident, Illness and such other unforeseen eventualities.
 
Cancellation rules:
1) Participants booked online will do online cancellation minimum 10 days prior to your reporting date.
2) Participants booked offline will inform their cancellation by email to trekking@yhaindia.org minimum 10 days prior to your reporting date.
Only cancellation done as per above method will be eligible for credit shell/refund. The below cancellation policy will however not be applicable if the request reaches short of 10 days prior to the reporting date and shall not be eligible for credit shell/refund.
 
Cancellation Policy :
The Participant, who cancels the programme by serving request minimum 10 days prior to his/her reporting date as per above terms and conditions of “Cancellation Method”, is eligible to get the credit shell or refund as follows:
(a) Credit Shell:-
1) In case you are unable to join the programme due to any reason, you will get a 100% Credit Shell of the participation fees which will be valid till December 2024.
2) If the next programme opted by you is cheaper, you may use the balance amount in any of the Trek till Dec 2024.
3) If the next opted programme is costlier, the trekker has to pay the differential amount.
4) Program opted using the Credit Shell cannot be cancelled again.
5) You may transfer your seat to your family members and friends also. The seats thus transferred cannot be retransferred or cancelled.
6) The credit shell can only be used in booking of adventure programs organised by YHAI. The credit shell will not be used in taking memberships and hostel bookings.
OR
(b) Refund:-
Participants can opt for a 50% refund instead of 100% credit shell if they wish to. The conditions of “Cancellation Method” will be the same as mentioned above. The participant has to inform either offline or online minimum 10 days prior to his reporting date. If the request reaches short of 10 days prior to the reporting date the refund request shall not be considered.
Note: If any program will be cancelled due to Natural Calamity / Government Restriction / Cancellation of Permission or any other reasons, YHAI will be accountable only for program fees and not other expenses which participants have made for joining the program. In these circumstances the decision for participation fees will be considered by the YHAI and will be bound to all.
