YHAI Meghalaya State Branch gives another opportunity to explore Meghalaya by organizing a 8-day Caving Cum Trekking Expedition Covering the places in Mawsynram (the wettest place of the world) Shillong, Sohra (Cherrapunji), Wakhen from 06th February to 15th February 2023.


Program

Breif Description Of The Program : YHAI Meghalaya State Branch gives another opportunity to explore Meghalaya by organizing a 8-day Caving Cum Trekking Expedition Covering the places in Mawsynram (the wettest place of the world) Shillong, Sohra (Cherrapunji), Wakhen from 06th February to 15th February 2023. This is a good opportunity for caving (both sandstone and limestone) and to experience ascending and descending to the “Living Root Double Decker Bridge” along with bamboo trekking.
 
Day wise Schedule:
Day 1 : Reporting at govt. Youth Hostel, Shillong from 3 P.M. onwards, 6 P.M. orientation and training.
Day 2 : Transfer by bus to Mawsynram the wettest place of the world for caving at Krempuri the longest sandstone cave of the world. While returning from Krempuri to Laitryngew via bus participants may visit the KREMMAWJYMBUIN to witness giant Stalagmite formation shaped SHIVALINGA. [NIGHT STAY AT LAITRYNGEW.]
Day 3 : Trek from Laitryngew to Sohra (Cherrapunjee) via Lyngksiar Waterfalls, Dainthlen Waterfalls, Weisawdong Waterfalls and transport by bus to Shora. [Night Stay at Sohra (Cherrapunjee).]
Day 4 : Transfer by bus from Sohra (Cherrapunjee) to Tyrna. Trek from Tyrna to Double Decker living root bridge, then participants will be taken to Rainbow waterfalls (subject to terms and conditions) and back to Tyrna. Transfer by bus from Tyrna to Sohra. Night halt at Sohra (Cherrapunjee).
Day 5 : Transfer by bus from SOHRA to Krem Mawmluh/Mawmluh Cave (Limestone) which showcases the beginning of the Meghalayan Age, a new phase in history, Nohkalikai falls and Arwah cave (night halt at Sohra).
Day 6 : Transfer by bus to Mawrynkhang(Wahkhen) for the famous Bamboo Trek, return to Shillong-(Night halt at Shillong).
Day 7 : Local Siteseeing (at your own expense). Evaluation and Certification 7 P.M.
Day 8 : Checkout from Govt. Youth Hostel, Shillong by 9 A.M.
 
Who can Participate: Participation in the programme is open to all educational Institution, individuals and recognized units of YHAI. Participants have to bear all travel expenses from their place to Government Youth Hostel Shillong and back. The Age bar for Males is from 15 years to 65 years and for Females from 15 years to 65 years.
 
How To Reach The Base Camp : The nearest Railway Station and Airport is Guwahati. Sumo and Tourist Taxi are available from the railway Station and airport to Shillong which is about 100 kms away from Railway Station and about 130 kms from Airport. Government Youth Hostel is located opposite the Central Telegraph Office and near the State’s Secretariat which is a walking distance from the sumo/tourist taxis stand (Police Bazar).
 
How To Join : Members desirous to join this programme may apply on a prescribed Registration Form available from National Office Website (www.yhaindia.org downloads
trekking registration form), duly supported by a Medical certificate (www.yhaindia.org downloads trekking medical form). Please upload the scan copy of YHAI membership ID, details of the payment of registration form & Medical Certificate as an attached in the Email ID: yhaimeghsecy@gmail.com and submit the same at the time of reporting, failing which you will have to bear the printing charges.

Accommodation Facilities : Concrete Community Hall/ Rooms
Food & Water Supplies : Simple vegetarian food and safe drinking water will be provioded.
 
What participants should bring along : Beside their own personal belongings, the participants need to carry jacket, t-shirt, umbrella/ raincoat, torch, trekking bag pack/rucksack, sneakers suitable for trekking/ trekking shoes, cap, sunglasses, tiffin box, spoon, cup, water bottle etc.
 
Safety & Security : Participants shall not hold any of YHAI Organizer responsible wholly or partially for any injury, accidents, illness and such other unforeseen eventualities during expeditions.
 
Additional Notes : Please note that this is an environment friendly trekking/expedition. Do not litter any wrapper or spoil the route in any way. In case you find any wrapper/ Plastic bags or anything left by participants on the way, please carry the same with you and dispose at the proper place. It may be mentioned that minimum physical fitness is desirable from the participants as the terrain is quite tough and challenging.
The Central Government employees can avail special casual leave as the Trekking Expedition organized by YHAI have the approval of Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, (Dept. of Personnel and Training), Government of India, vide office order No. 28016/89-Estt (A), dated 25th October, 1989.
Participants who successfully completed the expedition and abide by the discipline of the programme will be awarded Certificate.
 
Cancellation Policy : In case any participants is unable to join the program, application for cancellation in writing or email to the State Secretary ONE MONTH before the scheduled date booked by the individual and avail 50% of the participation fee paid. If such notice is received after the time given no refund will be admissible.
