National Munsiyari Khaliya Top Trekking Cum Training Expedition (Uttarakhand) 2024


Khaliya Top is the highest point (3500 mtrs) and gives you scenic view of the snow clad peaks of Panchachuli, Rajrambha, Hardeol, Nanda Kot and Nanda Devi. It is a popular trekking destination located nearby a small town known as Munsiyari.

Breif Description Of The Program : Khaliya Top is the highest point (3500 mtrs) and gives you scenic view of the snow clad peaks of Panchachuli, Rajrambha, Hardeol, Nanda Kot and Nanda Devi. It is a popular trekking destination located nearby a small town known as Munsiyari. Munsiyari is situated in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand state. Nestled in the snow capped peaks of the Himalayas; Munsiyari at an altitude of 2250mts offers splendid views of scenic snow capped peaks. Munsiyari literally translated means “place with snow”, and is also referred as Little Kashmir. Panchachuli is a group of five peaks and is the star attraction at Munsiyari. Flora and Fauna consist of Rhododendrons, Pine and Deodar trees, Birds like Wagtail, Raven, Falcon, Monal, Himalayan griffon and serpent eagle. Leopard, Himalayan bear, Fox and Musk deer have made their home in the altitude jungles of Munsiyari.
The Munsiyari is paradise for nature photographers and bird watchers. In winter Munsiyari is also famous as Skiing destination.
Place to see in Munsiyari: Panoramic View of five peaks of the Great Himalayan Range named as Panchachuli Peaks, Nanda Devi Temple, Birthi fall.
 
Schedule Of Programme :
Day 1 : Report at Kathgodam Railway Station.
Reach Kathgodam Railway Station at 07.00 AM. Pick up transport will be arranged for Munsiyari at Kathgodam Railway Station. Generally it takes 10-12 hrs depending upon the road conditions. The scenic beauty that you see along the route will definitely make you feel refreshing and like travelling to heaven. You will see the snow capped mountain ranges, green dense forest and waterfalls. Arrival at Munsiyari by evening and overnight stay at hotel. Once you reach Munsiyari, you find yourself face to face with the beautiful Panchachuli Mountain.
Day 2 : Acclimatization walk at Munsiyari
Orientation and Acclimatization walk to Nanda Devi Temple.
Day 3 : Trek from Munsiyari to Martoli Thatch – Alt. 8500 ft. (8 kms)
The trek to Martoli Thatch (Meadows) is 8 kms takes about 5 hours. We walk through forests and climb up to 8500 ft. The trek to Martoli thatch is a gradual climb to the campsite. The campsite is on meadows amidst the oak forests with the stunning view of Panchachuli peak. Overnight camp at Martoli Thtach.
Day 4 : Trek from Martoli Thatch to Roodkhan- Alt. 9000 ft. (6 Kms)
As you leave Martoli Thatch the open sky with vast meadows beckon you. You can find out hidden treasures of nature in the form of Monal, Ghural, Kakar, Himalyan Griffon Vultures and Bharal (mountain goat). The dense forest is mix of Pine, Deodar, Oaks, Spruce and Cypress and Rhododendron trees or Buransh as it is called in the local language. In spring the whole jungle turns red with the rhododendron flowers. With the gain in altitude these trees change’s shape to bush and colour to white. Overnight camp at Roodkhan.
Day 5 : Trek from Roodkhan to Bhaisiya Tal (4-5km)
After breakfast, we will move to next camp, first two hours will be steep climb and then gradual up and down. You will get the snow patches and rhododendron tress while going to Bhaisiya Tal, and best season for rhododendron flowers. Enjoy the magnificent view of Panchachuli from camp site. Night stay at Bhaisiya Tal
Day 6 : Trek from Bhaisiya Tal to Khaliya Top and back to Munsiyari base Camp (14km) . Certificate distribution and recreation activity
Early morning trek from Bhaisiya Tal to Khaliya Top. After reaching the ridge trek will be gradual. The special views from Khaliya top of the Panchachuli and Nanda devi range is the heaven for trekkers. After spending some time on top we will be back down to base camp. In evening Certificate distribution and recreation activity.
Day 7 : Check Out
Early morning after breakfast check out.

Who Can Participate?
This expedition is open to YHAI members who are 15 years above and physically fit. Below 15 years kids will be allowed with parents/Guardian only and above 60 years will be allowed after approval of Programme Co-ordinator/Authorised Persons in offline mode.
 
How To Reach The Base Camp :
BY Train : Kathgodam railway Station is the nearest railway station, Kathgodam is well connected by railway network with major destinations of India.
By Bus : Kathgodam is well connected by motorable roads with major destinations of Northern India and Uttarakhand State. From ISBT Kashmere Gate, Delhi you can get bus from Delhi to Haldwani on regular basis. From Haldwani you can take rickshaw to reach Kathgodam Railway Station (Pickup point).
By Air : People who prefer to travel by air can easily do so as the closest airport lies at a distance of 71 km from Kathgodam. The Pantnagar airport is connected with other cities with the help of regular and frequent flights. However internationals travelers can travel till the Indira Gandhi International airport in Delhi, which is the closest airport and can further take a flight to the Pantnagar airport. With the help of a bus or a cab from the airport, travelers can easily reach Kathgodam.

Members desirous of joining this programme may apply on the prescribed registration form duly supported by YHAI prescribed Medical Certificate along with or Deposit Slip/NEFT Challan Copy or a DD/Cheque of requisite amount Rs. 9500/- in favour of “Youth Hostels Association of India, Delhi State Branch” payable at New Delhi
N.B: Booking is based on first come first serve All Offline Booking confirmation is subject to availability of seats. Without admit card and Medical Certificate do not claim your registration as confirmed.
Note: Seat once booked may not be re-scheduled or transferred.
 
Accommodation Facilities : Accommodation in Hotel/Tent on sharing basis will be provided.
Food & Water Supplies : Simple, nutritious vegetarian meals will be provided.
Transportation : Transportation from Kathgodam to Munsiyari by Tempo Traveller/Jeep will be provided only.

Certificates : Participants, who successfully complete the trek and abide by the discipline of the program, will be awarded certificates.
 
Additional Notes :
1. Smoking, use of alcohol and narcotics of any description is strictly prohibited during the course of the program.
2. Deviation from the set route of the program is not permitted. If participants may wish to join any other activity, they may do so at their own responsibility and risk only after finishing the program and checking out.
3. Stay other than YHAI Camp is not allowed for the entire duration of the camp.
4. This is an environment friendly trek. Do no litter any wrappers or spoil the trial in any way. In case you find any wrapper, plastic bag or anything left by trekkers on the way, please carry the same with you and deposit at the next camp.
5. Burning of woods during camp fire is strictly prohibited.
6. Medical Certificate is compulsory; you have to summit Medical Certificate at the time of reporting.
If found flouting the rules, your participation will be terminated with immediate effect.
 
Special Casual leave : The Trekking Expedition organized by Youth Hostels Association of India have the approval of Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (Dept. of Personnel And Training), Government of India, vide Office Order no. 28016/3/89-Estt (A), Dated 25 October, 1989. Participants working in the Central Govt. Organization can apply to the authorities concerned for availing special casual leave for the duration of the expedition. This leave can be sanctioned by their office up to 30 days in calendar year.
Certificates : Participants, who successfully complete the trek and abide by the discipline of the program, will be awarded certificates.
 
Safety & Security : Trained/expert camp leaders will be available for guidance. Medicines will be available in the camp. First aid/ basic medical assistance shall be provided. While every care has been taken to ensure safety, The Youth Hostels Association of India, Delhi State Branch will not be responsible for any accidents, illness and any such unforeseen eventualities.
 
Cancellation Policy :
In case you are unable to join this trek you will get 50% of the Programme Fee which is Rs.4750 /- as refund, provided your online cancellation request is received before 31st March 2024 (positively). Any request received after the last date of cancellation will not be considered.
Any unforeseen event / strike or natural calamity will not be considered as a cause of cancellation. Refund will be given after completion of the programs.
