BREIF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROGRAM:

HORNBILL FESTIVAL:

The festival that began in 2000 is named after the hornbill, a culturally significant bird that symbolizes fidelity, beauty and grace in Naga folklore and ritual. The event includes an exhibition of crafts and handloom products, and a food festival featuring Naga cuisine. It is one of the largest indigenous festivals organized by the state government of Nagaland to promote tourism in the state. The festival pays tribute to Hornbill; the most admired and revered bird for the Nagas for its qualities of alertness and grandeur. The Hornbill Festival is very popular in Nagaland and is also called the Festival of All Festivals. The festival is a powerful expression of Naga culture through great traditional music, dance, and performances. All of the Nagaland tribes contribute to making the festival more colorful, vibrant, and enjoyable.

TREKKING:

1. PULIE BADZE: Pulie Badze, is a mountain peak in Kohima District of Nagaland, Standing at an elevation of 2,296 m (7,533 ft) overlooking the capital city of Nagaland, Kohima, it is the centerpiece of Pulie Badze Wildlife Sanctuary. Pulie Badze is located just a few kilometers away from Jotsoma village in the Kohima district (approximately 10 km from Kohima). The area is known for its legendary story, as well as its stunning elevated location, which offers breathtaking views of the surrounding scenery. The trek to the hilltop is also pleasant, making for a blissful outing for visitors who come to enjoy the natural beauty of the area. Visitors trek all the way to the hilltop, to get a scenic view of the surrounding areas – including parts of Mt.Japfu (second highest peak in Nagaland) and a panoramic view of Kohima town. The major attraction of this place is the scenic beauty which pulls many tourists to it.

2. DZUKOU VALLEY: The Dzükou valley lies between 25°31’0” N and 25°35’0”N latitude and 94°3’0″E to 94°5’0″E longitude, straddling the Nagaland-Manipur border. In the foothills of eastern Himalayas in the state of Nagaland, its rolling hills, emerald green gentle slopes, and evergreen forests made Dzukou valley the natural crown jewel of North East India, at ~8000 ft (2438 mts), Dzukou valley is situated beside the Japfu peak on the border between Nagaland and Manipur. However, being close to Kohima, the state capital of Nagaland, more tourists trek the valley from Nagaland side. As for most part of the year, the valley fills with the famous Dzukou lilies and a large number of other varieties of orchids and is often referred it as the Valley of flowers of north east India. An advantage of visiting during the drier months (Nov-Dec) is the absence of pesky, bloodsucking leeches. Winter (November to March), offer a visual treat to visitors.

*As Kohima is under the administration of Nagaland Government, our programme is totally depended upon the terms & conditions of the then prevailing situation.
