BREIF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROGRAM:

AT THE START WE VISIT POBITORA: We shall first visit Pobitora Wild Life Sanctuary, located around 60 Km from Guwahati, known for its highest density of one-horned Rhinoceros in the world. Popularly known as “mini-Kaziranga”, Pobitora was declared a sanctuary in 1987. Spread over an area of only 38 sq. Km, Pobitora may be small, but is a heavenly segment of raw wilderness and greenery. Wild Boars, Barking- Deer and Water Buffalos can easily be spotted grazing the field’s right next to the mighty rhinos. It is an important Bird Area and home for more than 2000 migratory birds and various reptiles. We shall do Elephant Safari or Jeep Safari here. From here we go to Kaziranga about 170 km away.

Kaziranga National Park, which covers an area of 378 km2, with approximately 51.14 km2 lost to erosion in recent years. The sanctuary, which hosts two-thirds of the world\\’s great one-horned rhinoceroses, is a World Heritage Site. According to the census held in March 2018, the rhino population in Kaziranga National Park is 2,413. The park is home to large breeding populations of elephants, wild water buffalo and swamp deer. Kaziranga is also recognized as an Important Bird Area by Birdlife for conservation of avifaunal species. We shall do Elephant Safari/Jeep Safari and enjoy an evening Cultural Show at Kaziranga. Stay here overnight and next day morning we go to Kohima about 240 km.

Hornbill Festival: The festival that began in 2000 is named after the hornbill, a culturally significant bird that symbolizes fidelity, beauty and grace in Naga folklore and ritual. The event includes an exhibition of crafts and handloom products, and a food festival featuring Naga cuisine. It is one of the largest indigenous festivals organized by the state government of Nagaland to promote tourism in the state. The festival pays tribute to Hornbill; the most admired and revered bird for the Nagas for its qualities of alertness and grandeur. The Hornbill Festival is very popular in Nagaland and is also called the \\’Festival of All Festivals. The festival is a powerful expression of Naga culture through great traditional music, dance, and performances. All of the Nagaland tribes contribute to making the festival more colorful, vibrant, and enjoyable.

Besides we take the opportunity of exposing the natural beauty of Assam through a visit to Pobitora Wild Life Sanctuary and Kaziranga National Park prior to our visit to Nagaland.

*As Kohima is under the administration of Nagaland Government, our programme is totally depended upon the terms & conditions of the then prevailing situation.
