About Program : Dear students, our mission is to enable and promote travel, tourism, adventure spirit, national integration and Education by our different adventure programmes round the year. Every year we organize a Special Nature study cum trekking expedition programme for the student. So once again we are conducting the same programme at 15 Miles in district Kullu (HP). This programme includes many adventurous activities which can boost your future with courage, leadership, National Integration, team spirit and lot of fruitful achievements
Location : Kullu (HP)
 
Flora and Faluna : The common trees in the Kullu hills belong to the conifer species (deodar, pine, spruce, fir). Several species of medicinal plants like Hath Panja (Dactylorhiza hatageria) and Brahma Kamal (Saussurea obvallata) grow luxuriously in the valley. The valley is known for the presence of the , the Himalayan brown bear and the Himalayan Thar. The Western Tragopan (the state bird of Himachal Pradesh) and the Monal pheasant are the prominent birds species found in the region.

Highest Altitude Gain : 12,000 Feet
Note : These programs are exclusively for YHAI members. Membership is also available at Base Camp/Online/State Branch/Units and YHAI Trekking expeditions are not subsidized by the Government or any donors.
 
Day wise Schedule:
Day 1 : Reporting : participants will report at base camp 15 Miles. Equipments will be issued to the students by or before evening.
Day 2 : Training/Acclimatization: Students will trek around the base camp while morning exercises to get acclimatized properly followed by breakfast. After breakfast students will go for rock climbing and rappelling till lunch break and after a specific rest students will enjoy the river crossing by different techniques under the guidance of our professional instructor.
Day 3 : Short Trek to Kharogi: Students will be transported from Base Camp to Katrain where they will start trekking for 04 hours to reach Kharogi Youth Hostel Camp which is located at an altitude of 6000 feet from sea level.
Day 4 : Trek to Naya Tapru: On this day students will enjoy the beautiful trek in dense forests for 06 hours while gaining some altitude to reach Naya Tapru Camp which is located at altitude of 8200 feet from sea level. Naya Tapru Camp is the site where tree line ends and snow line starts
Day 5 : Height Gain: This is the day when students will feel the real adventure while trekking on snow, snow sliding etc. to reach the base of the Chanderkhani, Chanderkhani is a mountain pass having altitude of 12000 feet approximately. Students will only reach to the base of chanderkhani mountain pass and will return to the camp and this trek will take around 10 hours approximately
Day 6 : Descend to Nathan Seri: On this day students will start descending in beautiful dense forests towards Nathan Seri Camp. During this trek students can enjoy the beautiful natural views of Mountain peaks, Villages etc. this trek will take 07 hours to reach the Nathan Seri camp which is located at an altitude of 6000 feet from sea level.
Day 7 : Return To base camp and Lunch, and recreation activity.
Day 8 : Check out: On this day students will have to check out from the base camp after breakfast.

Who can Participate: The program is open to students of age group between 10-15 yrs. Only junior members are allowed to participate. Overage/ underage students shall not be considered in any case.
One teacher/ escort accompanying a group of 10 students will be complemenatry in terms of participation fee on ‘first come first served’ basis.
 
How To Reach : 15 Miles is 20 kms from Kullu. near end of Span Resort. Get down at Ballu’s Cafe – Baba Deluxe Dhaba on the Delhi- Kullu Manali National Highway. With a panoramic view of surrounding mountains.Regular bus services are available for Kullu from Delhi,Chandigarh & Punjab. Every bus from Kullu to Manali is passed from 15 miles. The nearest Railway Stations are Ambala & Chandigarh & the nearest Airport is Bhuntar.
 
How to Participate :
Online Booking : Members desirous of joining this program may apply online by paying program fee along with online booking amount rs 5000/- .
We accept Net Banking, Debit Card and Credit Card payment on www.yhaindia.org for online payments.
After successful transaction Admit Card will be generated. Participant has to carry “Admit Card”, “Trekking Medical Certificate” & “Membership Card”(Print out of temporary membership card may also be accepted) at the time of reporting to the Base Camp.
Offline Booking : Members desirous of joining this program may apply on the prescribed “Trekking Registration Form” duly supported by a “Trekking Medical Certificate“, along with a DD of requisite amount of Rs.5000/- in favour of “Youth Hostels Association of India” payable at New Delhi. All Offline Booking confirmation is subject to availability of seats. National Office will send the Admit to the participant at the address mentioned in “Trekking Registration Form”.
Members can also apply through our YHAI Units or State Branch in their respective area.
N.B: Without admit card and Medical fitness Certificate do not claim your registration as confirmed.
 
Notice to Participant for any illness or injury : YHAI Group Insurance cover is for accidental death or permanent disability only. You are advised to take personal insurance cover for your journey and other related matters. Extensive and painstaking preparations have gone into the planning of mountain biking routed for your safety. Our field staff and experienced camp leaders have been visiting the area to check all details. While every care has been taken to ensure safety, the Youth Hostels Association of India cannot be held responsible for any accident, illness and such other unforeseen eventualities.
 
Accommodation Facilities : Tenting accomodation will be provided.
Food & Water Supplies : Simple vegetarian food
 
What participants should bring along : Rucksack (if You have one), Woolens, Cotton Shirts, Slacks, Cotton Pants, Sun Cap, Shoes, Socks, Enameled or Steel Mug / tumbler, Plate, Lunch box ,Spoon, Water purifying tablets, Pen knife, Needle, Thread, Spare buttons, Goggles, Cold cream / Vaseline, Soap, Toilet Paper, Towel, Rain sheet, Medicines (As per your personal requirement, which you regularly use at home and Crepe Bandage 4in*1, Micropore tape 1/2inch*1, Bandaids, Cough lozenges/ Kanthil or other, Vicks Vaporub, Coldarin, Clortrimazole cream and powder, Paracetamol*10 Mupirocin cream, Diclofenac gel, Lopamide*10, Azithromycin and Electral), Camera with extra batteries.
 
Notice to Participants :
1. Students will have to follow the schedule strictly. If participants may wish to join any other activity, they may do so at their own responsibility and risk only after finishing the program and checking out.
2. Stay other than YHAI Camp is not allowed for the entire duration of the camp.
3. This is an environment friendly trek. Do no litter any wrappers or spoil the trial in any way. In case you find any wrapper, plastic bag or anything left by trekkers on the way, please carry the same with you and deposit at the base camp.
4. Burning of wood during camp fire is strictly prohibited. Import of any bio Non- degradable Material in Himachal Pradesh is an offence.
 
Certificates : Participants, who successfully complete the trekking and abide by the discipline of the program, will be awarded certificates.

Justice TPS Chawla Scholarship for underprivileged Girls : YHAI announced Justice T.P.S. Chawla Memorial Adventure Scholarship for underprivileged girls for participation in YHAI adventure activities. Girls whose family income is less than Rs.100000/- p.a. can avail this scholarship. Applicant has to submit the salary certificate of their parents. In case of Business, she has to submit their income on an affidavit. Deserving participants may apply to the National Office YHAI supported by relevant document / certificates.

Off the beaten Siddharth Scholarship for underprivileged Young Men & Women : YHAI announced 50% Off the Beaten Track Siddharth Scholarship of the program fee to provide underprivileged Young Men & Women less than 30 years of age with an opportunity to participate in outdoor adventure activities/ programs by YHAI in various parts of the country. Underprivileged Young Men & Women whose family income is less than Rs. 250000/- p.a can avail this scholarship by applying to the National Office YHAI supported by relevant document/ certificates through their respective State Branch.
 
Cancellation Rules:
1) Participants booked online will do online cancellation minimum 10 days prior to your reporting date.
2) Participants booked offline will inform their cancellation by email to trekking@yhaindia.org, minimum 10 days prior to your reporting date.
Only cancellation done as per above method will be eligible for credit shell. The below cancellation policy will however not be applicable if the request reaches short of 10 days prior to reporting date and shall not be eligible for credit shell.
Cancellation Policy :
1) In case you are unable to join the programme due to any reason, you will get a 100% Credit Shell of the participation fees which will be valid till December 2024. No refund will be applicable for any cancellation of seat.
2) If the next programme opted by you is cheaper, you may use the balance amount in any of the Trek till Dec 2024.
3) If the next opted programme is costlier, the trekker has to pay the differential amount.
4) Program opted using the Credit Shell cannot be cancelled again.
5) You may transfer your seat to your family members and friends also. The seats thus transferred cannot be retransferred or cancelled.
6) The credit shell can only be used in booking of adventure programs organised by YHAI. The credit shell will not be used in taking memberships and hostel bookings.
Note: If any program will be cancelled due to Natural Calamity / Government Restriction / Cancellation of Permission or any other reasons , Yhai will be accountable only for program fees and not other expenses which participants have made for joining the program. In these circumstances the decision for participation fees will be considered by the Yhai and will be bound to all.
