Day Wise Schedule
Begin your journey in Kathgodam and drive through the lush Kumaon hills to Jageshwar Dham, a revered temple complex nestled among deodar forests. Known for its intricate stone architecture and spiritual ambiance, Jageshwar offers a tranquil pause before continuing toward Patal Bhuwaneshwar—a mystical limestone cave temple believed to be connected to ancient legends and cosmological symbolism. Overnight stay near Patal Bhuwaneshwar/Chowkori.
After exploring the enchanting subterranean chambers of Patal Bhuwaneshwar, continue your scenic drive through undulating valleys and forested ridgelines to Munsiyari. Often called the “Gateway to Johar Valley,” Munsiyari sits beneath the majestic Panchachuli peaks and was once part of an ancient Indo-Tibetan trade route. The area offers glimpses into the rich cultural heritage of the Bhotia community. Overnight stay in Munsiyari.
Kick off your trek with an early morning drive through remote villages like Lilam, Bogudiyar, Rargari, and Mapang. Each hamlet whispers stories of historic trade caravans and alpine survival. Reach Laspa by afternoon—your first trailhead into the sacred Johar Valley. Set camp near the village and take an acclimatization walk, enriched with warm interactions with the locals whose traditions blend Tibetan roots and Kumaoni spirit.
A full-day trek takes you toward the awe-inspiring Bankatiya Glacier Base, with views of the towering Bankatiya Peak (6,800 m). This high-altitude route is both scenic and essential, traversing through wildflower meadows and rocky moraines. Return to Laspa in the evening for camp stay, the atmosphere charged with anticipation for the days ahead.
Embark on a 5–6 hour trek along the roaring Gori Ganga River, passing through highland pastures dotted with shepherd huts. The trail opens to panoramic views of legendary peaks like Trishuli and Hardeol. Burfu village welcomes you with its stone masonry Johari houses, sacred shrines, and tales of traders who once journeyed to Tibet via hidden Himalayan passes. Overnight camping near Burfu allows for a deeper connection to the land and its stories.
Continue through mixed forests and alpine terrain on a moderate 4-hour trek. Cross the lively Lwan Gad stream and ascend to Ghanghar, the last inhabited settlement en route to the base camp. This village, steeped in folklore and surrounded by ancient cedar groves, serves as a testament to high-altitude resilience and harmony with nature. Camp overnight here, under a sky dusted with stars.
Journey upward through lush meadows and glacial debris to reach the iconic Nanda Devi East Base Camp—nestled beneath the commanding twin peaks of Nanda Devi and Nanda Devi East. This sacred mountain, once closed to climbers due to its ecological fragility and spiritual significance, remains a symbol of reverence among locals and trekkers alike. Spend the day absorbing the grandeur of the Himalayas, with ample time for exploration and photography.
Begin your descent through alpine grasslands and whispering pines, retracing your steps past Ghanghar before arriving at Rilkote. Once a seasonal stopover for traders and shepherds navigating their way to Tibet, Rilkote exudes a timeless solitude. Set up camp in this historic pastoral site for an evening of peace and reflection.
Enjoy a short morning trek back to Laspa before transitioning to a 4-hour drive to Munsiyari. Upon arrival, settle into your guesthouse and let your weary feet rest. The evening is yours to explore the vibrant local market, interact with residents, or simply watch the sunset paint golden hues across the Panchachuli peaks.
With your soul rejuvenated and heart full of memories, depart Munsiyari after breakfast. The echoes of ancient villages, icy ridges, and starlit campsites will stay with you long after you leave this mystical land.
