Breif Description Of The Program: On a popular demand from our members, Youth Hostels Association of India Jaisalmer unit organizing the Desert Festival & Desert Trekking Expedition, 2025 in the Jaisalmer region of the GREAT THAR DESERT of Rajasthan.
The Jaisalmer Desert Festival (Maru Mahotsav) is an annual event that take place in February month in the beautiful city Jaisalmer. It is held in the Hindu Month of Magh (February), three days prior to the full moon. Desert Festival shows the traditional culture and folk tunes of Rajasthan. The Folk fusion of from Jaisalmer will surely grasp the attention of travelers. Desert Festival Jaisalmer is one of the most famous Rajasthani Festivals visited by thousands of tourists is organised by Rajasthan Tourism Development Authority every year.. The three day event is celebrated first two days in Jaisalmer and last one day in Sam Sand Dunes of Jaisalmer Desert. The Celebrations of this festival make the desert come alive with color, enthusiasm and happiness. The festival commences with a procession in the morning from the Jaisalmer Fort to Shahid Poonam Singh Stadium . The local dress in traditional and bright costumes. Desert Trekking and camel safari in Sam Sam Dunes with best views of Desert. Best time to explore the historical forts ancient haveli, temples, majestic palaces and indigenous culture as well.
Day Wise Schedule:
Day 1 : Reporting at Border Home Guard Ground at 05 P.M.
Documentation upon arrival and have little relax then orientation after dinner. In Orientation we will discuss the schedule of programme, what to do and what no to do during programme, and how to enjoy the programme fully with discipline and safety of all the members.
Day 2 : Enjoy the Desert Festival organised by Rajasthan Tourism Development Authority.
After Breakfast, today we will enjoy the Desert festival and programme are as follows:

1) Shobha Yatra and Inaugration
2) Turban Tying Competition (Indians)
3) Turban Tying Competition (Foreigners)
4) Moomal-Mahendra Competition
5) Mr. Desert Competition
6) Ms. Moomal Competition
7) Moustache Competition
Time: 07.00 PM onwards
Traditional Folk Dance & Music & Fire Work Display at Poonam Stadium by renowned folk and bollywood singers
Day 3 : Second Day of Desert Festival will be more exciting and adventurous as well.
After Breakfast we will go to Dedansar Stadium for enjoying the below programmes

1) Camel Decoration Competition,
2) Shan-E-Marudhara Competition,
3) Air Warrior Drill Show by I.A.F,
4) Tug of War Competition for Men & Women (Indians & Foreigners),
5) Camel Polo Match,
6) Panihari Matka Race Competition for Women,
Time: 02.00 pm to 04 pm: Camel Tattoo Show (Acrobatics) by B.S.F.
Time: 07.00 PM onwards: Cultural Programme and fire works display at Poonam Stadium
Day 4 : Visit Jaisalmer City and after lunch depart for Sam Sand dunes.
After Breakfast visit jaisalmer city and after lunch depart to Sam Sand Dunes. Enjoy the camel race in desert, Sun Set & Moon Rise, cultural programme in evening
Day 5 : Camel Safari Sam Sand Dunes to Khabha Lake :- 10 KM, Trek to Khabha fort – 2KM, Khabha fort to Heritage village Khuldhara by bus, after visiting Khuldhara Heritage Village, Moon Night Trek in Khuldhara Sand Dunes. Night Stay in Kuldhara.
After breakfast, Camel Safari from Sam Sand Dunes to Khabha Lake and then trek to Khabha Fort around 2 km. After visiting Khabha Fort, we will go to Kuldhara Heritage Village by bus and stay in Kuldhara Camp. After a short tea break we will do the night trek in moon light. Night Stay in Kuldhara Camp
Day 6 : By Bus Go to Tanot Temple, Indo-Pak International Border, 1971 Indo-Pak war Longewala Museum. Back to Base Camp. Certificate Destribution and Night Stay at Base Camp Jaisalmer
Day 7 : Group Breaks after breakfast.
Who Can Participate: Minimum Age 10 years. Physically Fit.
How To Reach The Base Camp: Base Camp for the program is established at
2 KM from Bus stand and 4 KM from Railway Station. Jaisalmer is connected by train service with Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Hawra, Jaipur, Ajmer, Jodhpur, Bikaner. It is also connected by Road with delhi, ahmedabad, kutch, pune, Mumbai, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Jaipur, Ajmer & Udaipur. Regular Flight from :- Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Surat, Delhi & Jaipur.
How To Join: Members desirous of joining this programme may apply on a prescribed Registration Form Duly supported by Medical Certificate which is available from Units/State Branches and National Office.

Accommodation Facilities: Tents on sharing basis.
Food & Water Supplies: Morning tea, Breakfast, lunch/Pack lunch, evening tea and dinner shall be provided. Simple Vegetarian, good quality nutritious food shall be served at the camp. Please bring your own plate, mugs spoons, Tiffin box for pack lunch etc.
Notes: Special Rajasthani Dishes in Dinner. Dal Bati churma, Bajra Roti churma, Ker Sangari (Lonji), Besan Gutta Sabji, Mirchi Methi Sabji, Sweet Panchdhari, Besan Barfi.
What Participants Should Bring Along: Woolen Jersey & muflar cotton cloths, sun cap, water bottle, lunch box, mug-glass, plate, spoon, soap, Toilet paper, towel, medicines ( which you normally use) cameras.
Safety & Security: Extensive and painstaking preparations have gone into the planning of camping program for your safety. Our field staff and experienced camp leaders have visited the area to check all details. While every care has been taken to ensure safety, the youth hostels association of India or its Jaisalmer unit not be responsible for any accident, Illness and such other unforeseen eventualities.
