Overview

Mysore is known as the Cultural Capital of Karnataka and is a beautiful blend of royal heritage, rich traditions, and natural charm. From the majestic Mysore Palace and sacred Chamundi Hills to peaceful lakes, vibrant markets, and timeless architecture, the city offers a perfect mix of history, culture, and serenity.

The program begins with reporting and orientation at the International Youth Hostel Mysore, introducing participants to the cultural richness of the city and preparing them for the days ahead. The adventure starts with a visit to Chamundi Hills, a site steeped in mythology and home to the revered Chamundeshwari Temple. The trek up the traditional stone steps offers panoramic views and a connection to the legend of Goddess Chamundi’s victory over the demon Mahishasura, after whom Mysore is believed to be named. The day ends with a visit to Mysore’s vibrant heritage marketplace, known for its silk, sandalwood, and traditional charm.

Participants then explore Mysore’s iconic attractions, beginning with the historic Mysore Zoo, established by the Wodeyar kings and renowned for conservation. This is followed by a visit to the grand Mysore Palace, a stunning example of Indo-Saracenic architecture and a symbol of the city’s royal legacy. The day concludes at St. Philomena’s Church, one of Asia’s tallest neo-Gothic churches, reflecting Mysore’s cultural diversity.

The next day features exciting water sports activities at the serene Varuna Lake, offering adventure and scenic beauty. A visit to the local markets adds a taste of Mysore’s traditional crafts and lively atmosphere. The program then moves towards nature with an excursion to Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, Karnataka’s largest bird refuge developed under the guidance of Dr. Salim Ali. Rich with birdlife and peaceful surroundings, it offers a refreshing escape. This is followed by the enchanting Brindavan Gardens, famous for its terraced design, colourful fountains, and the iconic musical fountain show.

The program concludes with group recreation, a group photograph, and certificate distribution before check-out, leaving participants with enriching memories of Mysore’s history, nature, and adventure.
