Bhadrachalam is one of South India’s premier Hindu pilgrimage centres, located on the banks of the Godavari River in Telangana. It is world-renowned for the historic Sri Sita Ramachandra Swamy Temple — a 17th-century architectural marvel built by Kancharla Gopanna (Bhakta Ramadasa). The region sits in the Dandakaranya forest, where Lord Rama, Sita and Lakshmana are believed to have spent part of their 14-year exile.
Papikondalu (Papi Hills) is a breathtaking hill range famous for its winding gorges along the Godavari River, scenic boat cruises, bamboo hut camping and pristine nature. Maredumilli is a premier eco-tourism hotspot in the Eastern Ghats, famous for its lush semi-evergreen forests, cascading waterfalls and rich biodiversity — an ideal retreat for nature lovers and adventure seekers.
Major festivals at Bhadrachalam include Sri Rama Navami (March/April), when millions witness the spectacular Sri Sitarama Thirukalyana Mahotsavam, and Vaikuntha Ekadashi (December/January). Nearby tourist spots include Papikondalu Hills (scenic steamboat rides and waterfalls) and Parnashala (about 35 km away), believed to be the site of Sita’s abduction by Ravana.
