About the Programme

Nestled in the Eastern Ghats, Araku Valley is Andhra Pradesh’s premier hill station, renowned for its lush coffee plantations, rich tribal culture, and cascading waterfalls. Located about 115 km from Visakhapatnam, it attracts visitors seeking a serene, misty escape and unique indigenous experiences like the famous bamboo chicken.

Araku is situated at an altitude of about 1,300 m above sea level. Galikonda Hill, rising to a height of 5,000 ft (1,500 m), is among the highest peaks in Andhra Pradesh. The valley is connected to Visakhapatnam by both rail and road. The railway route passes through 58 tunnels and 84 major bridges along the Eastern Ghats — an engineering marvel on the famous Kothavalasa-Kirandul (KK) line.

The Borra Caves, located in the Ananthagiri Hills of Araku Valley, are among the largest and deepest caves in India, extending to a depth of 80 m. They are karstic limestone structures exhibiting a variety of stalactites and stalagmites. For adventure seekers, Katiki Waterfalls near Borra Caves is a popular spot for water rappelling. Other scenic cascades include Chaparai Waterfalls and Tadimada (Ananthagiri) Waterfalls.
