BREIF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROGRAM:

BATCH I: 1ST TO 8TH FEBRUARY, 2026.

BATCH II: 24TH TO 31ST MARCH, 2026.

AT THE START WE VISIT POBITORA:We shall first visit Pobitora Wild Life Sanctuary, located around 60 Km from Guwahati, known for its highest density of one-horned Rhinoceros in the world. Popularly known as “mini-Kaziranga”, Pobitora was declared a sanctuary in 1987. Spread over an area of only 38 sq. Km, Pobitora may be small, but is a heavenly segment of raw wilderness and greenery. Wild Boars, Barking- Deer and Water Buffalos can easily be spotted grazing the field’s right next to the mighty rhinos. It is an important Bird Area and home for more than 2000 migratory birds and various reptiles. We shall do Elephant Safari or Jeep Safari here. From here we go to Tezpur about 150 km.

Tezpur located on the banks of the river Brahmaputra in the Sonitpur district of Assam is a historical and mystique city and has many ancient and mythological artifacts. We shall visit the historical sites and enjoy the scenic beauty of the area. Night stay at Tezpur, next day early morning we go to Nameri.

Nameri National Park is a national park in the foothills of the eastern Himalayas in the Sonitpur District of AssamIndia, about 35 km from Tezpur. Nameri is home to some of the endangered species like white winged wood duck, Sloth Bear, Tiger Leopard, Clouded Leopard, Sambar, Gaur, Indian Wild Dog, four varieties of Hornbill and many other winged species. The other reason Nameri is famous for, is the herds of elephants. We shall participate in a Forest Trekking after crossing a river by boat, we shall also go for a River rafting here and then we shall go to Kaziranga about 120 km, have a night stay and visit Kaziranga next day.

From Nameri we go to Kaziranga National Park about 120 Kms, which covers an area of 378 km2, with approximately 51.14 km2 lost to erosion in recent years. The sanctuary, which hosts two-thirds of the world\’s great one-horned rhinoceroses, is a World Heritage Site. According to the census held in March 2018, the rhino population in Kaziranga National Park is 2,413. The park is home to large breeding populations of elephants, wild water buffalo and swamp deer. Kaziranga is also recognized as an Important Bird Area by Birdlife for conservation of avifaunal species. We shall do Jeep Safari and enjoy an evening Cultural Show at Kaziranga. Stay here overnight and next day morning we go to Majuli Island about 150 km.

Majuli approximately 150Kms from Kaziranga is a large river island in the Brahmaputra River and in 2016 it became the first island to be made a district in India. It had an area of 880 sq Kms at the beginning of the 20th century, but having lost significantly to erosion it covers 352 sq Kms as at 2014. It is necessary to take a ferry to Majuli. It is also called the cultural capital of Assam. Majuli is the main center of the Neo Vaishnavite ideology of eastern Assam. We visit a few Vaishnavite Monasteries and the sand beaches, stay overnight and next day we go Hoollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary about 60 km.

The Hoollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary renamed on 25 May 2004, formerly known as the Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary or Hollongapar Reserve Forest, is an isolated protected area of evergreen forest located in Jorhat district of Assam, India. The sanctuary has a very rich biodiversity and is home to the only apes in India, the western hoolock gibbon (Hoolock hoolock), as well as the only nocturnal primate found in the northeast Indian states, the Bengal slow loris (Nycticebus bengalensis). As of 2023, there are 125 individuals of Hoolock Gibbon in the sanctuary. Night stay at this park and next day we move to Guwahati about 350 km.
