BREIF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROGRAM:
Wayanad, a verdant district nestled in the Western Ghats of Kerala, is a picturesque destination that offers a harmonious blend of natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and adventure. Known for its sprawling spice plantations, mist-covered mountains, and diverse wildlife, Wayanad provides an ideal retreat for nature lovers, history enthusiasts, and thrill-seekers alike. Trekking , camping , Wildlife Safari, Nature study , Heritage study are include this programme.

Day 2 (17.01.2026)5.00 AM Transfer to Chembra
CHEMBRA PEAK TREKKING 6.30 AM to 10.30 AM
Chembra Peak, a majestic mountain rising to 2,100 meters above sea level, is the highest peak in Wayanad and one of the tallest in the Western Ghats. The trek is especially famous for the heart-shaped lake located halfway to the summit. With a moderate level of difficulty, the Chembra Peak trek is ideal for both beginners and experienced trekkers. The journey spans about 9 km and takes roughly 4-6 hours to complete, depending on your pace and the weather.
2.30 PM En Ooru (Tribal Village ) Visit ( 36 Kms By Bus from Chembra)
En Ooru Wayanad is Kerala’s first Tribal Heritage Village, highlighting ethnic origin, cultural customs, tribal social organizations, ancestral traditions, tribal art, and cultural expressions. The village’s main attraction is the replica of tribal huts, which provide an insight into the life of the community. The Kerala government has opened a tribal market inside the En Ooru Wayanad tribal village

8.30 Transfer to Banasurasagar Dam 22 KMs By Bus
9.30 AM to 11.30 AM Banasura Sagar Dam is a picturesque tourist hotspot in Wayanad. Its sprawling reservoir of clear water is surrounded by lush green hills and it’s dotted with tiny islands.
12.00 Noon Transfer to Edakkal Caves (45 Kms By Bus)
2.00 P M to 5 PM Edakkal Cave (a trek of about 3 km is required to reach the caves from the parking area and back)
Located at about 1200 ft above the sea level, the Edakkal Caves are among the oldest human settlements ever discovered. Inside the caves are pictorial drawings and engravings that indicate the presence of ancient human settlements in the region. Despite their name, the Edakkal Caves are not actually caves.

Kuruvadweep is a haven of natural beauty, with dense forests, bamboo groves, and a variety of flora and fauna. The island is part of a protected river delta and boasts an impressive array of plant species, including rare orchids and medicinal plants.

Safari is more than just an exhilarating escapade; it is a testament to the harmonious coexistence between humans and wildlife. Through responsible tourism practices, such as guided excursions and adherence to designated routes, visitors not only gain invaluable insights into the sanctuary\’s ecosystems but also contribute to its sustainable conservation efforts.
5.00 PM Tholpetti toThirunelly Temple (20 Kms by Bus )
5.30 PM to 7.00 PMThirunelly Temple
The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the preserver and protector in the Hindu Trinity. Unlike other temples where Lord Vishnu is worshipped in a reclining or sitting posture, the idol at Thirunelli Mahavishnu Temple is in a standing posture, holding a conch (shankha), discus (chakra), and mace (gada)- traditional symbols of power and protection.
Over the centuries, the temple became a focal point for ancestor rituals (Pitru Karmas), as it is believed that the Papanasini stream, which flows nearby, has the power to wash away sins and grant eternal peace to the departed souls.
(The Thirunelli Temple has a dress code that prohibits shorts, mini-skirts, and sleeveless tops. For men, the acceptable attire is a shirt with trousers or a dhoti/pyjama with an upper cloth. Women should wear a saree with a blouse or a churidar/salwar with a pyjama. )

Any YHAI member above the age of 15 years can participate on first cum first serve basis.

Air: The nearest airport is Calicut International Airport (78 Kms)
Rail : Kozhikode Railway station (CLT) is the nearest Railway Station (72 Kms)
Road : Good Road Transport Service Available from Kozhikkode (Calicut) to Kalpetta (Private and Kerala RTC Buses services available frequently )

SAFETY & SECURITY:
Our field volunteers and camp leaders have been visited the area and check the details. While every care has been taken to ensure safety, Youth Hostels Association of India cannot be held responsible for any accident, illness and such other unforeseen eventualities
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Use of alcohol and narcotics of any description and smoking are strictly prohibited during the programme. Deviation from the set rout of the programme is not permitted. If participants desire to join any other activity, they may do so at their own responsibility and risk only after finishing the programme and check out.
CANCELLATION RULES:
In case you are unable to join the programme after paying participation fee, you will get 50% as refund provided your request is received at least 10 days in advance from the date of your reporting. No refund will, however, be admissible if such notice is short of 10 days.
